Halloween is quickly approaching and this year I feel smack in the middle of a quarterlife crisis. For the better half of the last decade of my life, Halloween has meant two main things: ridiculous costumes and alcoholic beverages. I’m not gonna lie about that second part. In college and shortly after it was one of the biggest party nights of the year and kegs were just as commonplace as pumpkins and candy corn.
This year, however, I’m nearing 27 and find myself living in an actual house – not an apartment – where neighborhood children will knock on our door to trick-or-treat. That’s a first for me and I’m not sure what to do with it. One one hand, sitting at home with a nice glass of wine watching a bad horror flick and passing out candy sounds great. And then a little voice in my head shouts “What’s wrong with you? You’re 26, not 50!” So perhaps I’ll throw on a make-shift costume and drink cocktails amongst the scantily clad college kids in town. Or maybe a little bit of both!
If I had the foresight and funds to plan it, perhaps I’d throw a Halloween dinner party with a small group of friends. And if I did, I think it would look something like this…
