Shakin’ Up St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! To celebrate my Irish heritage, I just enjoyed a pint of Guinness and an Irish car bomb with some lovely lasses from work.

My other favorite St. Patrick’s Day tradition? SHAMROCK SHAKES!

When I was younger, a girl in my elementary school class had a birthday on March 17th and EVERY year she brought the class Shamrock Shakes for a birthday treat. I’ve been hooked from then! It was probably around the time this commercial was made…

Last year I tried visiting three different McDonald’s locations to get one on St. Patty’s Day and they were sold out! NO SHAKES in ’09! Apparently I’m not the only one because I found this article today called “The 2010 Shamrock Shake Crisis.” According to the article, “you can consult a grassroots website that’s been set up to document where Shamrock Shakes are and aren’t available, with real time updates from shake-hunters.” Hilarious!

If you’re one of those unlucky shake-hunters who can’t get your hands on one this year, never fear — here’s a recipe from The Takeaway:

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup half & half
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract (spearmint, not peppermint)
  • 8 drops green food coloring
  •

    Keep those Irish eyes smiling!

    1. Here is a topic for you to discuss emo. Why do the bubbles in a freshly poured pint of guiness sink and not rise?
